Why are email links not working?

Why are email links not working?

27.Oct.2021

As of recently, I've been receiving more and more messages from readers telling me that the hyperlinks in their Microsoft Outlook were not working.

Well, first thing first. If you are reading this article online through your Outlook email client, then this step doesn't apply to you :)

Now if you clicked on a link within an email message opened on another browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for example) some time ago but it won't work now, follow these instructions:

Open your favorite web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome). Copy the URL address of the website where the hyperlink is pointing to Paste the copied URL address at www.tinyurl.com Click on Make TinyURL Go back to your email client and paste the tinyurl in the address bar of your Outlook (or compose a new message and paste it).

This should work if you've done everything correctly. If not, then read below:

As we know already, there were several issues why hyperlinks don't work. First case would be that you're using an unsupported browser for viewing your Outlook messages such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox etc. since they are better than Microsoft Internet Explorer, so some add-ons or add-ins might cause trouble with opening URLs properly.

Second case is one of the add-ins/extensions messing with internets security settings on your machine makes it impossible to open any link and/or website and it is a good idea to visit your add-ins and extensions page and disable all of your installed Microsoft Outlook's add-ons. If disabling them doesn't solve the problem, just delete the add-on completely from your system.

Last case would be that you're using an old version of Outlook such as Outlook 2003 or lower since they don't support latest standards for security encryption etc. so make sure that your copy of Outlook is up to date if you want to use new features. You can check this by going to File -> Account Settings -> Change -> More Settings... -> Update Options button, here if it says "Your automatic update settings are managed by your system administrator" then it means that there is no update available for your Outlook client. If you are using Windows Vista or higher, then all of your programs are automatically updated through Windows Update so it changes accordingly.

As always, if the problem persists then comment below and I'll try to help you out!
