URL shortener #8: Bit.Do # matchurl

All these solutions are great if you want to shorten a simple URL for something like an email campaign, but what about those times when you're trying to track actual traffic? What about if you're trying to promote a link on social media and use analytics as a metric for success? That's where bit.ly comes in.

The post goes on with descriptions of specific features for each service, but the above is the gist of it. It was written by a writer who knows how links work, and has data-backed reasons why one would want to avoid certain services from being added into their content.

In conclusion, this article gives information that might be helpful or interesting to the reader without either providing too much pro/con detail or becoming overtly promotional. The writer has humanized their writing style by using "I" statements throughout. It's clearly not an advertisement because if you look at the pictures, there are no logos for any of the services here, only screenshots with descriptions.

This article was written in 2014 but it has held up well over time. Shortened links are still useful to people who aren't familiar with them and want short URLs that they can remember/exchange easily without compromising on trackability or security. People still seek out solutions similar to bitly even though most shortened links come pre-wrapped in popular social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc., which use their own URL shorteners behind the scenes when they share a link! As long as there are shortened links, there will be a need for these services and the content marketers that use them.

URL Shortener #8: Bit.do (Different bitly alternative) [This section is what you would see if you actually clicked on the article] Summary I'm not going to lie; this is my favorite service on the list simply because of how it looks and operates. It has all the same features as most other link trackers including analytics and customizable options but with a clean interface and easy to use format.  It also has an automatic QR code generator so you can give your link address with ease.  One of the best features that I think is most underrated (and most other shortened links lack) is the ability to know who's clicking on your links and what sites they're coming from. This does not affect how they work or operate, but it gives power users peace of mind knowing exactly where their traffic comes from. Prices Prices are all fairly standard depending on the length of the link-it usually isn't free unless you own a domain, which comes with its own set of cons, but they offer daily/monthly/yearly subscriptions for shortening URLs if desired. Pros + Categorized Notifications (More organized and easier to see what type of notification) + Simple, Clean Design + Analytics + QR Code Generator Cons - No domain-only pricing

Summary I really like bit.do's clean interface and nice features that are missing from some of the other services on this list. I've never had an issue with it in all my time using it, which is always a good sign, but since it doesn't support custom branded domains I can't say that you should use this for your own site unless you have an easy-to-remember domain name to use.  I would say use bit.do for shortening links where possible or for your social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
