TinyURL # MatchURL : No. 1 Premium URL Shortener

08.Nov.2021

TinyURL is a free URL-shortening web service, enabling its users to take long URLs and shrink them. The site was founded by programmer Kevin Gilbertson in 2002. As of February 2018, it uses Amazon Cloudfront as CDN.[1]

URLs shortened by TinyURL are permanent, unless the archived page becomes unavailable or the link to that webpage expires. Once the content has been changed or removed from the short URL, links will stop working; however this does not affect already archived pages. The maximum length of a custom TinyURL is 260 characters.[2]

There are several thousand tinyurls which now redirect back to tinyurl.com (redirect loops). This started happening because many online tools automatically create tinyurls, and some of them strip http:// from the URL before creating it. To avoid this, I added an extra check to make sure the redirect wouldn't happen if you didn't put 'http://' in front of the TinyURL.

What Is TinyURL?

TinyURL was founded in 2002 by entrepreneur Kevin Rose. It's completely free to use, doesn't require registration or an account, and enables you to create custom short identifiers using letters, numbers , spaces, underscores "_", plus symbols like "/" and "-" . It also offers a preview feature so that you can see where your shortened link will send someone before actually creating it. You can integrate TinyURL's button into your browser toolbar, so whenever you visit an website with a long URL, there's one with a short TinyURL instead.

How Does TinyURL Work?First off, check if the website you want to shorten a URL for already uses TinyURL or one of its alternatives. For example, URLs on Wikipedia contain the string " //tinyurl.com/ ". If this is the case, just head to their main page and cut out everything after " /tinyurl.com/ ", replacing it with your own phrase from which you'll generate the new link
