The shorter the link, the more likely it is that people will click on it, according to a new study.

The information was revealed by researchers from marketing software company Kenshoo Social , who carried out research into how social media users interact with different types of content on Facebook .

They discovered that shortened links are clicked on 53 per cent more than non-shortened ones. Meanwhile, videos were clicked on 122 per cent more by users.

The reason for this phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that short URLs are easier to recall and fit within posts better - making them appear slightly larger due to having more characters available.

Even though they look bigger, there's no evidence that long URLs affect your page rank or website authority in search engines.
