Not having to worry about anchor text can be a big relief. You don’t have to think of the perfect phrase that will help Google understand what your link leads to. The software will do it for you!

Link shorteners allow you to take advantage of the concept of keywords within slugs. If there's no space in the Twitter post or bio, squeeze in the keyword by using its acronym (i.e., SEO becomes seo) or truncate the link itself (i.e., /seomoz).

Shortened links are also helpful if you’re sharing someone else’s article and want to include their main point in the slug. For example, say you're retweeting this egg-cellent article . You could shorten the link and add a relevant value statement in the slug.

" This egg-cellent read from @YourBlogName will help you with your #poultry marketing strategies ."

Shortened links can also be used to direct readers to photos or infographics that are hosted on sites like Pinterest or Tumblr, which don't have hyperlinked URLs. They can also be anonymized (i.e., " rtvcnn3 ") should you want to obscure the actual link's destination until you're ready to share it.

Since there’s no space for anchor text in shortened Twitter bios, you’ll want to use keyword phrases that best reflect what your bio says about you or your company . For example, you might say "SEO writer" rather than "I'm a freelance SEO content marketer who enjoys watching Netflix in spare time."

Here's an example of how to shorten the link and use keywords in the slug:
