How URL Shortener Works:

Internet is full of resources, information and entertainment.  It has so much to offer in terms of videos, articles and blogs.  A person can find almost anything over internet and they love to share the content with their friends and family members.  Whenever we want to share something via social network or email then we need a link that will direct them straightly without making them search about the content.

Imagine you are sharing a funny video on Facebook with your friends but when people open it than they must wait for 5 seconds before watching it because there is an ad within the web page which will be shown first. It would be frustrating if people have to wait for few seconds to watch a cute video of cats and dogs doing silly things.

A URL Shortener works very simple. It shortens the link itself so people do not have to go through this annoying process before they can see the content. Instead of sharing long links, you just have to share your shortened link which is made up of random numbers and letters.

How does Shorten Link work?

An Example Link:

This link contains a lot of information that you don't need for sending it over internet or social media platform. That's why URL Shortener works by removing all unnecessary code from the link, leaving behind meaningful words at the end instead of long code. And this is how it shortens the link.

This is an example of your shortened link which can be shared on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Reddit etc. Here you do not need the whole URL to share with someone because Shortened Link contains all necessary information that would direct people straightly to the desired website without wasting their time by clicking on lengthy links everytime they want to access something new on internet or social media sites like YouTube, Pinterest etc.

Where does Shorten Link Work?

You must have seen many websites offering such service but most of them are not trustworthy and harm your computer or mobile phone. Such Shorten Links are used by hackers to spread malware and viruses because they know that people will click on them very fast without thinking twice which will make easier for them to distribute Trojans, Ransomware etc.

Therefore you should be very careful when it comes to sharing shortened links with unknown web pages. If the website looks suspicious than avoid clicking on its link before you can do some research about it. Many trustworthy sites like Bitly, Google URL Shortener offer such services of URL shortening that is fully secured and free of cost.

Always refrain yourself from "Shorten my Link" Services because these websites steal your earning potentials by removing referral clauses present in the ad code which would give you revenue for each visitor you send to advertiser.

Therefore it is always good to use a trusted URL shortener service instead of trying your luck with untrusted websites because they can harm your computer even more than before if you click on their links.

In this article, we have shared some tips and information about Shorten Link work so that You can easily understand How Does URL Shortening Work? And decide whether you want to become a part of such services or continue using trusted ones only.

I found this incredibly useful, especially the bit about how it might be bad if you shorten too much (specifically PayPal). I never use shortened links, but that's because I like knowing where they go (so that perhaps I'll not be redirected/fooled into a scam, etc). I've seen a few services that try to "protect" you from them by only letting you shorten once on it.

If you don't have an account with any of those services or if the links are too long for those services to shorten them, put them on your own site and monetize. It'll be safer for your readers as well as more profitable for yourself. Reply Delete

I found this post EXTREMELY helpful! I'm new to wordpress and am trying to get my blog up and running (this is my first time!). Anywho, I got stuck on step 22 where all i had done was create the .htaccess file and renamed it as .htaccess_old. After that, I went back into Document Manager WP Super Cache plugin and clicked on Update Status button next to Cache Size column as instructed but then NOTHING HAPPENED after that… No numbers or anything happened so i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. Anyway, I did some googling and found this link how-do-i-update-a-file-in-wordpress - it says to do the same thing but instead of renaming .htaccess_old to .htaccess, i should rename it to something else like .htaccess_abc123. I'm not sure if that's correct or not though because i don't know what the extension for my file is (since it was already created when i downloaded wordpress). If you guys could point me in the right direction that would be great! Reply Delete
