How to shorten links in Buffer for Business

13.Sep.2021

You know what link shorteners can do for you and your business. Let’s go for a spin through how you can shorten links in Buffer and Google Analytics. (Heads up: this is using the Buffer for Business features.)

First log into Buffer and click “Settings.” Then choose “Link Shortening” in the drop-down menu.

That will take you to the place where you’ll manage your link shortening services (including our buff.ly link shortener) and link tracking.

Next, you can select the link shortening service you want to use. You don’t need any extra link shortening services to shorten

## As of right now, only the buff.ly link shortener is available for using in Buffer.

If you use our image uploading tools, that is an option as well. However, the images are shared on your own brand’s account at imgur.com

Remember that the links are shortened only if they are longer than 25 characters

You can also track clicks on your links with Google Analytics or Mixpanel

Remember these three things to know about how you set up tracking for links:

* Tracking includes all public posts and private posts with one exception: If a message has already been queued to be posted later, it won’t track correctly

* You have to activate installations of the Buffer browser by clicking “Install” on the browser extension and adding an installation token

* If you stop tracking, all historical data will still be available – we don’t wipe out or remove that history. You can always go back and activate tracking again if you want to

To do that, just go into the Buffer browser app, open up your Extensions menu within Chrome or Safari, select “Manage Installed Apps” and re-activate Buffer for Business. Then return to the link shortening page in your Buffer account where Tracking is located. From there you should see this:

We have temporarily paused Google Analytics integration while we resolve a technical issue, but it should be turned on soon!

If you want to use other link shortening services like Bitly or Adfly, you’ll need to look into their specific instructions on how they link tracking is set up.
