Tumblr allows for public and anonymous posting, but it also requires that all blogs be in the .tumblr.com format (that includes with or without "www"). What is Tumblr? In regards to social media platforms, Tumblr users are referred to as "Tumblrs." On the main website, Tumblrs who follow other Tumblrs are called "reblogs" while those who both follow and reblog another user's content are known as "favorites." If someone likes (or reblogs) something that you've posted on your blog, they will see updates from all of the blogs that they follow simultaneously in their dashboard. There is an advanced search option which allows users to find other blogs based on similar tags or categories, not unlike how Google Image Search works.
Each user has the option to "follow" other members, and each follower gets a notification every time the blog owner adds new content. The site also features its own direct messaging system that allows users to send private messages to one another if they are not already following each other on Tumblr. In addition to being able to friend or follow others, there is also an option for users to reblog the posts of other blogs they enjoy so that all followers of both accounts will see these posts in their dashboards as well.
