If you have a post on social media that is longer than the character limit, sometimes it's necessary to use a shortened URL. When using a link shortener, keep in mind that people will not be able to tell where the link goes by looking at it. In order to avoid confusion on the destination of your link, add an explanation before or after  the shortened URL.

For example:

So this is where I ended up after trying out all possible combos...can you guess? http://t.co/mLrmoIoD via @quechua
