3 Tips for Choosing the Best Link Shortener

3 Tips for Choosing the Best Link Shortener

14.Nov.2021

One of the most used features in social media today is a link shortener. Although it's a seemingly simple tool, there are more things you should consider when choosing one to use on your site or blog. There are several advantages and disadvantages for using a dedicated service compared to using an URL shortener built into blogging software.

Q&A with Stephan Hovnanian, Web Designer at Shortest Path Marketing

1) What is the difference between a dedicated link shortener and one that comes with blogging software?

" A dedicated link shortener is typically not limited by any parameters within the social networking platform where its being shared, while some blogger-provided solutions may limit this sharing due to restrictions they put on their users," said Stephan Hovnanian, web designer at Shortest Path Marketing.

2) What are the pros and cons between a dedicated link shortener and one provided by blogging software?

" Dedicated services usually have more robust sharing options for additional mediums such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr etc., while blogger-provided tools may be limited to just a few," said Hovnanian. "On the other hand, the blogger's own software solution typically requires no extra setup time or maintenance."

3) What should an online marketer consider when choosing a link shortener service?

Hovnanian suggests taking these three important things into consideration: 1. The use case. How will you be using the URL shortener overall? Do you want to share through social media, typical email? 2. The available tools and integrations. Will this service integrate with any of your existing tools or will you need to invest in new ones? 3. Reporting capabilities. What type of insights will you be able to glean from the data that's collected through your shortened links?

What is Keyword Research ?

Keyword research  is one of the most important tasks in an SEO campaign and involves selecting appropriate keywords which can be used as part of your content and used to improve your rankings. The best keywords are ones that bring lots of traffic but are relatively easy to rank for.

Many people use popular tools like Google Adwords Keyword Planner or Market Samurai  to find keywords related to their industry. However, you can also try out free tools like Ubersuggest , Keywordtool.io  or Google Trends  to find suggestions related to your keywords. Once you have selected a set of appropriate keywords, the next stage is to optimize on-page elements using tags like title, meta description and header tags.
